Allan Norman

Allan is one of Canada's leading practitioners of scenario-based financial planning, a collaborative approach that explores different versions of a client's future live, in real time, until the right path becomes clear, believable, and achievable. As a Portfolio Manager and fiduciary, his first obligation is to his clients, not to a product shelf or an employer. He combines scenario-based planning, lifestyle financial planning, and evidence-based investing to help people discover what is truly possible, create the life they actually want to live, and trust that their investment portfolio will support their plan. The process makes learning fast and fun, quickly building confidence so clients make better decisions, faster.

His writing on retirement, decumulation, CPP and OAS timing, and corporate planning appears regularly in MoneySense and the Financial Post. Writing for a national audience for over 10 years has sharpened his ability to explain complex ideas simply, a discipline that shows up in every client conversation.

Outside of work, Allan is someone who moves. He races as crew on a sailboat, skis regularly in the winter, and still shows up weekly for ping pong with the Barrie Ping Pong Club. Fitness is important to him and he exercises regularly. Whenever there is a family gathering, he is the one in the kitchen baking pies, cakes, and other goodies. Travel has become important to him too. Just prior to Covid he took his two children to Paris, later made a solo trip to England, and most recently sailed off the west coast of Turkey. He and his wife live on a three-acre property in Oro-Medonte, Ontario, and most winters he finds his way to North Miami for a few weeks.

In February 2018, Allan's wife suffered a mild brain injury while out on a run, making dining out, travel, and most social gatherings no longer possible for her. It has deepened Allan's belief that if you can do it today, what are you waiting for.
